The Overgrowth

As of writing, I've started part-time freelance work as a lead gameplay programmer on an unannounced title! Those that know me know that while my passion lies in programming, my first love has always been game development. I feel very excited to work on this at the moment; it's a Godot-based project which I adore, and after five years of exclusively working on webdev, it's a lovely change of pace.

Apart from this, I've kept busy in the ever-insurmountable task of cleaning up my online presence. On the topic of game development, I've put some effort into prior game jam work from 2018 to 2022 into a public Itch.io page. You can check it out at Honie's Archives, if you're so inclined. I have also finally launched a Discord bot that was in development hell for years!

Right now, I'm procrastinating on drawing the assets for my work-in-progress website. Plan's to make it into some kind of greenhouse that changes depending on the time of day of your clock, but I am notoriously terrible at drawing backgrounds, so I really need to sit my ass down and lock in for this one.

My media diet's got a little too much Mewgenics into it at the moment! I quite enjoy how it lays bare some aspects of "cozy sim management" games, where under the facade of cute living characters the intense player base behind titles like Animal Crossing and The Sims end up min-maxing the characters into their preferred aesthetics. The strategy gameplay is also excellent, and Ridiculon's soundtrack has gotten more stuck in my head than any title in years. Apart from it; I'm currently flipping through UFO 50 (Pilot Quest) and Lifeline, inspired by a lovely Neocities shrine.

In the near future, looking forward to Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream (April can't come soon enough), as well the streaming release of Nirvanna The Band: The Show: The Movie. I'm surprised by how much it caught on, I was sure it'd be far more of a niche theatrical release!
